No, you're not having deja vu. This is a different Volkswagen sedan that's been caught doing high-altitude testing in the Alps. Specifically, it's the next-generation Jetta.

If you were wondering if it was the Passat we spied in similar conditions just a few weeks ago, we don't blame you. And if you were wondering if the Jetta would continue to be a smaller, less expensive Passat, you're right. Both cars are expected to utilize Volkswagen's newest design themes as seen on the newest Golf and Touareg and on the New Compact Coupe Concept from this year's Detroit Auto Show. In fact, both of these mules even wear similar camouflage.

We don't yet know what exactly to expect in the new Jetta, but we wouldn't be surprised to see the current engines carried over, perhaps with further refinement. That means an inline-five gas engine displacing 2.5 liters and producing 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque and a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder producing 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet. Volkswagen is also working on a hybrid system that will likely reach the Jetta, but we don't know when as it's only been adapted for the much larger and rear-wheel drive-based Touareg so far. The next Jetta is expected to debut sometime this summer.
