Nissan has decided to push production of the Quest minivan to January of next year to make way for the automaker's upcoming NV commercial van lineup. The change means Nissan's latest Quest will start life as a 2012 model instead of a limited-release 2011 model.
"This benefits the customers through better residual values for the newer model," said Nissan spokesman Steve Parrett to the Associated Press.

The large size of the commercial vans led to $118 million in changes to Nissan's Mississippi plant. Interestingly, most of the plant modifications were made in the paint plant: each van needs about 10 gallons of paint.
Currently, 16 percent of Nissan's global sales are commercial vehicles, though that percentage could creep upward with a successful release of the NV lineup in the U.S.
The 2012 Quest isn't quite as big. Even still, the engineers in charge of its development asked for more time to complete R&D, which led to the switch in the plant's plans.
Judging by teaser photos of the Quest, expect top-of-the-line versions to be more luxurious than any of its predecessors. Stay with Motor Trend for all updates on the Quest and the NV van series.
