Nissan has decided to push production of the upcoming NV commercial van lineup in its Canton manufacturing plant to January of next year. The change means the NV will start life as a 2012 model instead of a 2011 model.

The large size of the commercial vans led to $118 million in changes to Nissan's Mississippi plant. Interestingly, most of the plant modifications were made in the paint plant: Each van needs about 10 gallons of paint.
Currently, 16 percent of Nissan's global sales are commercial vehicles, though that percentage could creep upward with a successful release of the NV lineup in the U.S. Does the Nissan NV have what it takes to stick it to Ford's Transit Connect and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans? Only time will tell.
